This is probably the most well known dystopian book out there. It follows Winston, a worker at the “Ministry of Truth“ responsible for altering historical documents to align with the party’s constantly changing narrative. He however starts to doubt the system he is stuck under and at first through the subtlest of ways starts to rebel against the system.
This is definitely a book you will never forget. It is at once terrifying and horrifying to read but also insightful. It shows the extremes authoritarian regimes can get to and the effect it has on the people under such a system specifically how the extreme surveillance and fear of the population influences their lives.
I hope this work and works like these can remind people of the danger we face when we allow certain people to have too much power in society. Even though this book will probably give you nightmares, it is definitely a reading experience you will not forget.
