This is a heartwarming story that follows the journey of A.J. Fikry, a rather grumpy bookshop owner in a small island village in the United States. One day a child gets left in his store by their mother who then commits suicide and A.J. now has to find a way to take care of this child while keeping his store in check. We also meet Amelie, a publishing house salesperson visiting bookshops to advertise their new books. The relation between Amelie and A.J. starts rather cold but slowly improves with more encounters.

The characters in this book make it what it is. They each have their own flaws and problems in their lives but find a connection with each other. It gives hope that even from a hopeless situation, you can still come out a part of a community and with a bit of happiness.

I read this book quite a while ago, I definitely need to reread it at some point but I only have positive memories of reading this book. I will update the review when I reread it but for now I would definitely recommend this book if the premise and mood sounds interesting to you.
