This book follows Sam, a rather lonely child who has to grow up with a rather distant father and chronically ill mother. During the summer, Sam decides to start working at a cinema and becomes close to the people he works with, experiencing the events in their town together. The book then follows their friendships while different things get in their way.
This is probably still my favorite German book that I’ve read depending on if I remember to update this review in the future. The characters feel very unique and are flawed in a way that I feel like I am. Especially the main character Sam, who I could relate quite well to. This was the first time that I have felt the urge to finish a German book in one go even though clearly it didn’t work out. Probably had something important to do the next day, can’t remember. This author was recommended to me by one of my friends at school and I cannot thank them enough. This book showed me that I can also enjoy German literature even though it is still harder for me to find something I like.
