Kobe, Japan
An old port town turn metropolis.
I have visited Kobe a couple times before, the photos are from the last time I went. At least when I last went, it didn’t feel as touristy as your usual Osaka, Kyoto, or Tokyo. If it is your first time in Japan though, I would probably prioritise other places.
Kobe Port
The port was originally built in the 12th century a bit west of the current port. It became one of the most important ports in Japan and one of the first opened to foreign trade during the time of isolation. During the 1970s, it was one of the busiest container ports in the world. After the Great Hanshin earthquake in 1995, a large proportion of the port was destroyed and since then it never really regained its former status.
