Kyoto, Japan
The Ancient Capital of Japan.
Kyoto is known around the world for it’s preservation of Japanese history. It is one of the go to locations for visitors of Japan. Having visited Kyoto plenty of times in the past decade, I have recently tried to find more obscure temples and shrines to see a slightly different view than the normal tourists.
Ninna-ji Temple + Gardens
Ninna-ji Temple was founded in 888 CE during the Heian period and is the home of the Buddhist Omuro school of the Shingon sect. The temple was partly burnt down during the Onin War in 1467 and was later rebuilt by Kakushin Hosshinno with help from the Shogunate.
